The New Public Space
Updated: Mar 14
Do people feel isolated in the city of Miami? Many of us feel that our city is not catering to our needs of belonging, resulting in our lack of interest and responsibility for the well being of our surroundings.
This project is about creating a scenario which is all-responsive. A scenario in which your actions affect others, in which you leave your footprint behind, in which you are placed at close distances to others. In this scenario you will be asked to picture yourself in the city. Imagine that you are in a subway station...
Where is your attention directed to?
What if your personal and daily space was denser with people? What if you were more aware of the people around you? What if you left your imprint on the surface of an existing architecture? What if public spaces acknowledge your existence?
Could individual needs be catered? Could people feel closer to their environment?
The New Public Space project studies the possibility of embedding responsive surfaces, either digital or non-digital, or small scale urban interventions to improve people's engagement with each other and their surroundings.
